Modern Industrial Engineering: Methods, Applications and Challenges

Industrial engineering is the field of engineering that deals with the design, optimization, and improvement of production systems and processes within an organization. Its primary goal is to increase efficiency, reduce costs, enhance quality, and optimize the use of resources.

Industrial engineering is applied in numerous sectors, including the automotive industry, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, logistics, and the service sector. Through its contributions, this field helps organizations become more competitive, reduce waste, and deliver high-quality products and services.

The list of industrial engineering technologies includes manufacturing technologies, automation and robotics, quality and processes optimization, simulation and modelling, industrial sustainability, and emerging technologies. Currently, the dominant trend in industrial engineering is the integration of these technologies into the concept of smart manufacturing, where automation, data analysis, and connectivity enable the continuous optimization of production.

The goal of this Special Issue, Modern Industrial Engineering: Methods, Applications, and Challenges, is to compile excellent research on current developments in contemporary industrial engineering. Innovative approaches, optimisation strategies, digital twins, Industry 5.0, smart manufacturing, sustainable production, quality engineering, simulation, and practical industrial applications are all welcome.
