Modern Technologies as a Manufacture Target in the Near Future - II

Automation, data exchange, digital technology, artificial intelligence machine learning and the Internet of Things are just some of the characteristics of modern technologies. The manufacturing industry of today is increasingly mechanized and dependent on various forms of technology. It is dependent on the implementation of innovative technologies and systems, which are reshaping the face of manufacturing in ways that were unimaginable only a few decades ago. These changes were previously impossible to imagine, and here are some examples: additive manufacturing (parts obtained by materials deposited in layers); augmented reality; numerical control (production regulated and controlled by computer numerical control); smart factories (highly digitized production system); cyber-physical systems (combine use of computers, networks, and actual physical actions); big data (a combination of data from all over the world) and so one.

So, in this regard, the manufacturing sector is undergoing a period of transformation as a result of the proliferation of advanced technologies and other novel approaches, which are not just improving production in terms of its efficacy and quality. The operational systems of manufacturing companies are continuously being modernized and digitized.

Based on the increased interest of researchers towards modern manufacturing technologies the International Journal of Modern Manufacturing Technologies has published a special issue entitled Modern Technologies as a Manufacture Target in the Near Future - II which includes topics as: engineering of manufacturing processes; advances in composite materials and technologies; characterization, modelling and simulation of mechanical processes; robotics and computer integrated manufacturing; technology transfer; micro- and nano- technologies; maritime engineering and navigation.
